About the Program
In January 2010, Book TV traveled to Kenya with author David Maraniss to document his research on his 10th book, "Barack Obama: The Story." This video shows him visiting with Obama family members in the village of Kanyadhiang near Kendu Bay, Kenya, on the shore of Lake Victoria. This is the ancestral homeland of the Obama family. In this video, David Maraniss is speaking with Ken Opala, a Kenyan journalist who worked with him in Kenya, Beatrice Okelo, a student and interpreter, and several Obama family members.
While in Kendu Bay, David Maraniss also visited the hut where President Obama stayed when he came to Kenya for the first time in 1987 as a 26 year old, and the grave of the President's great-grandfather, Opiyo Obama.
