About the Program
Historian H.W. Brands profiles Aaron Burr, vice president of the United States and the killer of former Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton in a duel on July 11, 1804. Mr. Brands presents a different side of the New York politician through a collection of letters between Burr and his daughter, Theodosia. Within the correspondence Burr recounts his political ascendancy and downfall and his belief in the equality of the sexes. Theodosia Burr was lost at sea in 1813. H.W. Brands speaks at the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.
