About the Program
Lisa Delpit, education professor at Southern University, contends that recent public education reform efforts, from No Child Left Behind to the proliferation of charter schools, have failed to assist African American students and address an achievement gap. The author contends that black students are not being engaged in the classroom and encourages teachers to re-imagine their curriculum and to reach out and establish real connections with their students. Lisa Delpit speaks at Busboys & Poets in Washington, D.C.
