About the Program

Ahmed Rashid, author of "Pakistan on the Brink," looks at Pakistan in light of the escalation of wat in Afghanistan by the United States and discusses the problems that Pakistan should expect to face after the U.S. withdraws.  During this event hosted by Columbia University, Mr. Rashid is in discussion with author and New America Foundation president, Steve Coll.       

About the Authors

Ahmed Rashid

Ahmed Rashid, who has been covering Central Asia for over 20 years, is a correspondent for the Wall Street Journal, Far Eastern Economic Review, Daily Telegraph (London), and The Nation (Pakistan).  Mr. Rashid is the author of "Jihad: The Rise of Militant Islam in Central Asia" and "Taliban: Militant Islam, Oil and Fundamentalism in Central Asia," which has been published in over 25 languages.

Steve Coll

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Steve Coll became president of the New America Foundation in 2007.  He is the author of "Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the CIA, Afghanistan, and Bin Laden, from the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001" and, most recently, "Private Empire: ExxonMobil and American Power."
