About the Program
John Carlos, winner of the bronze medal in the 200 meters in the 1968 Olympics, recalls him and his teammate, Tommie Smith's raised fist salute to represent Black Power on the medal podium in Mexico City. Mr. Carlos recounts his symbolic gesture at the Olympics, the subsequent fall-out, and his continued political activism. John Carlos
John Carlos won the bronze medal in the 200 meters at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City; following his track and field career he played professional football. He is the recipient of the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage and was inducted into the USA Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2003.
