About the Program

Film historian Steven Ross presents a history of politics and the film industry.  Mr. Ross examines the impact that Hollywood has played on the American political landscape and profiles several actors and studio heads from the ideological left and right, from Charlie Chaplin and Jane Fonda to Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Steven Ross discusses his book on a panel with Mike Farrell, author of Just Call Me Mike: A Journey to Actor and Activist and Roger Simon, author of Turning Right at Hollywood and Vine: The Perils of Coming Out Conservative in Tinseltown.  The panel is moderated by film critic Ella Taylor and is hosted by the Los Angeles Public Library.

Steven Ross

Steven Ross is the author of Working Class Hollywood: Silent Film and the Shaping of Class in America.  He is a history professor and chairman of the history department at the University of Southern California.
