In a biography of Karl Marx and his wife Jenny that's been nominated for the National Book Award, Ms. Gabriel explores the private world of the poor writer whose political and economic theories would later influence politics worldwide.  She discusses the man and the relationship that sustained him with New York University politics professor Bertell Ollman.

About the Authors

Mary Gabriel

Mary Gabriel was a Reuters editor for almost twenty years, working in both London and Washington, D.C.  She is also the author of two previous biographies: "Notorious Victoria: The Life of Victoria Woodhull" and "The Art of Acquiring:  A Portrait of Etta and Claribel Cone."
