Isabel Wilkerson Isabel Wilkerson is a journalism professor and director of narrative nonfiction at Boston University. She is a former feature writer for the Chicago bureau of the New York Times, where she was the first African-American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in journalism. She has also been a recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship and the George Polk Award.
