About the Program

Three former, high-level Pentagon insiders take a critical look at how the Defense Department operates and where the money it receives goes.  The three - Thomas Christie, Franklin Spinney and Pierre Sprey - are contributors to the book, "The Pentagon Labyrinth."  Danielle Brian, executive director of the Project On Government Oversight (POGO), acts as moderator for the discussion.       

About the Authors

Franklin C. Spinney

Franklin "Chuck" Spinney, who retired from the Defense Department in 2003, served 26 years as a staff analyst in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.  He was the subject of a March 1983 Time magazine cover story about Pentagon reform.  Mr. Spinney is the author of "Defense Facts of Life: The Plans/Reality Mismatch.

Pierre Sprey

Pierre Sprey, a former consultant for Grumman Aircraft, played a major role in the development of the F-16 fighter and A-10 attack jet after joining the Pentagon in 1966.  He is currently president of Mapleshade Records, which he founded in 1990. 

Thomas Christie

Thomas Christie retired from the Department of Defense in 2005, after serving for 50 years.  He was most recently Director of Operational Test & Evaluation at the Pentagon, where he dealt with weapons testing and evaluations.
