Not Written in Stone: Learning and Unlearning American History Through 200 Years of Textbooks

Kyle Ward

About the Program

Kyle Ward, director of social studies education at St. Cloud State University, examines how history textbooks have depicted historical subjects and events over a span of time.  Each of the book's chapters looks at a specific historical topic, from Pocahontas to the Mexican-American War, and presents a collection of passages from a range of textbook publication dates to illustrate how each topic may have changed over time.  Kyle Ward presents his book at the Cunningham Memorial Library at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana.
