Temperance Tour of Washington, DC with Garrett Peck author of "The Prohibition Hangover: Alcohol in America from Demon Rum to Cult Cabernet"

Garrett Peck

About the Program

While researching and writing his first book, The Prohibition Hangover," Garrett Peck developed a "temperance tour" of the nation's capitol as a way to learn about the topic and introduce people to his book.  Temperance was a 19th and early 20th century movement against alcohol abuse which led to the 18th Amendment prohibiting the sale and distribution of alcohol in the United States.  Mr. Peck discusses the causes of prohibition and the repeal of the amendment in 1933 during our tour that begins at the Temperance Fountain and ends near the Woodrow Wilson house in Washington, DC.
