About the Program

Lewis Sorley recalls the second half of the Vietnam War, from the arrival of General Abrams through the fall of Saigon.  It was recently reported that military officers were reading Mr. Sorley's book (originally published in 1999) to gain insight on what to do in Afghanistan.   Lewis Sorley discusses his book and takes national phone calls on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal."

About the Authors

Lewis Sorley

Lewis Sorley is the author of several books on military history, including A Better War: The Unexamined Victories and Final Tragedy of America's Last Years in Vietnam.  He is a former teacher at the Army War College and West Point and served in the Pentagon in the offices of Army Chief of Staff General William Westmoreland and Secretary of Defense James Schlesinger.
