About the Program

Haleh Esfandiari talks about her detention by the government of Iran beginning on New Year's Eve of 2006.   Iran's Intelligence Ministry accused Ms. Esfandiari of being part of a U.S. plan to overthrow the government of Iran and held her for 105 days.  She spoke at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, DC, where she works.

Haleh Esfandiari

Haleh Esfandiari is the founding director of the Woodrow Wilson Center's Middle East Program.  She has worked as a journalist in Iran and is the author of "Reconstructed Lives: Women and Iran's Islamic Revolution."
