About the Program
Charles Eagles, a history professor at the University of Mississippi, recounts the enrollment in 1962 of James Meredith, the first African American student to attend the University of Mississippi. Mr. Meredith's enrollment at the University was followed by a riot that resulted in the deaths of two civilians, several wounded U.S. marshals, and the assignment of thousands of soldiers to Oxford, Mississippi by President Kennedy. This event was hosted by Lemuria Books in Jackson, Mississippi.
