About the Program

Roy Harris Jr. presents a history of the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service that is awarded annually to a newspaper for achievement in reportage .  Mr. Harris researches the stories behind the recipients of the medal from the Arkansas Gazette's coverage of the integration of Little Rock schools in 1958 to the Charlotte Observer's discovery of the misuse of funds by the PTL television ministry in 1988 and the Boston Globe's reports of misconduct by Catholic priests in 2003.  Roy Harris Jr. discusses his book with Elizabeth Mehren,  Journalism Professor at Boston University and Sacha Pfeiffer, reporter at WBUR, NPR-Boston.  This event was hosted by Brookline Booksmith in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Roy Harris Jr. is senior editor of CFO magazine.  He was formerly a reporter with the Wall Street Journal where he served as deputy chief of the Los Angeles bureau for six years.
