About the Program

Nan Robertson appeared on Booknotes in 1992 to discuss, "The Girls in The Balcony: Women, Men, and The New York Times."  In the book, Ms. Robertson chronicles the history of sex discrimination at the New York Times.  She also provides details about the class action suit brought against the Times by seven women in 1974. That suit was settled in favor of the women.

Nan Robertson

Nan Robertson was a longtime reporter and correspondent for the New York Times.  She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her 1982 New York Times article about toxic shock syndrome.  Ms. Robertson passed away in 2009.
